JAN MONTYN EXHIBITION — RIVER OF LIFE
The year 2004 celebrates Jan Montyn's 80th birthday. In his 80 years, Jan Montyn has lived life to the fullest, both through destiny and through choice.
Destiny had him born in a small-town village in The Netherlands, heavily influenced by religion, of which one day he simply had to break free. Subsequent destiny had him end up in a war; many were to follow. Experience in and knowledge of the battlefield also made Jan Montyn end up in many war-alike situations while for example during work for Doctors without Borders, Terres des Hommes and Amnesty International. These were mainly executed in Asia (for example: Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia).
Genes, a photographic memory, experience and choice provided Jan Montyn with the gift of creating art. It consists of drawings, paintings, etchings and poems. His works are shown in galleries in France, Germany, The USA, Thailand, Japan and The Netherlands, amongst others.
For the launch of the Jan Montyn website and the opening of La Jivite art gallery, Montyn made an exclusive series of etchings, the "Mekong Series II", which is amongst other works on display at our opening exhibition "River of Life" and pictured below as a preview of the exhibition. You can fully experience Jan Montyn's view of "the river of Life" at La Jivite Art Gallery in Bangkok, with a large collection of etchings and drawings. |
